Oklahoma Mainstreet

The Oklahoma Main Street Center provides training and technical assistance for preservation-based commercial district revitalization. There are 42 communities in the Oklahoma Main Street program that actively implement the Four-Point Main Street ApproachTM to commercial district revitalization developed by the National Main Street Center. The Oklahoma Main Street Center also administers DesignWorks, a community design assistance program, in cooperation with the Oklahoma Arts Council.

New Historic Preservation Review Committee Members Named

December 11, 2008 -- Gov. Brad Henry recently appointed Dr. William P. Corbett of Tahlequah and Ronald H. Frantz, Jr. of Oklahoma City to the Historic Preservation Review Committee (HPRC).

Dr. Corbett is Professor of History at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, a position he has held since 1988.  His areas of special interest include state and local history and the history of the American Indian.

Q: The National Main Streets organization recently announced it will hold its national conference in Oklahoma City in 2010. How does this reflect on Oklahoma's Main Street communities? 

A: This will bring 2,000 Main Streeters to Oklahoma for a week. It will give us a chance to highlight the work of Main Street in Oklahoma and the many successes of downtown and neighborhood revitalization in Oklahoma City and the Main Street programs in communities throughout central Oklahoma.
